5 Tips for a Great Quick Move

Quick Move

We have discussed just how hard it is to pack suddenly and move. However, for many people this is reality. They may have gotten news that requires a quick move, they belong into our armed forces and are getting re-stationed, or maybe that dream job is available but you must be out of state in the next three days to get it. We understand, sometimes a move cannot be planned months in advanced, despite the best of intentions. With this being said, here are 7 tips that are going to help you to be successful in packing your home in a hurry!

  1. Make three piles: Keep, Throw Away and Donate. Be sure that you are making these piles in each room and quickly go through items. If you are unsure, keep it. Since you are moving so fast, you don’t have time to think about it. But, when unpacking, you can then decide whether to keep it or not.
  2. Get some help! We cannot stress this enough, when you need to get your home packed up soon, as many people as you can find to help you is going to be what you need to do.
  3. Start early with your packing. If you must be out in a few days, expect to have some early mornings and late nights trying to get your entire home packed up and ready to move.
  4. Stay hydrated! Even if it is not hot outside, packing is a chore and it is burning a lot more calories than you realize. Be sure that you stay hydrated so that you are on the top of your game and packing boxes as quickly as possible.
  5. Wear the right shoes. This is an invaluable tip. For those who wear sandals, they are going to be walking these boxes around the home slower, and are going to be more likely to fall causing an injury. Instead, wear boots or tennis shoes to protect your feet, and have the mobility that you need to get this done quickly!

Remember, whether you know a year in advance of your move, or even just a few days, Excel Moving is here for you!

Tips for Moving While Pregnant

moving while pregnant

One unique moving situation is when a couple is expected a child and decide to move during this time. For example, some couples who are expecting realize that their current home is simply not big enough, so they decide to move. However, there are some special considerations to take when you are moving while pregnant. Whether you are two months along or ready to deliver any day now, the following tips can prove to be helpful during this move!

Still Take Care of Yourself

It can be tempting to try to get everything sorted now and move. However, now that you are pregnant, you need to take care of yourself, as you are living for the baby. Therefore, take breaks when packing items and eat healthy meals. This may mean that you have to start packing and sorting several weeks in advance, but your health is more important right now!

Be Sure to Set up A Doctor in Your New Area

If you are moving to a new area, be sure that you have set up a doctor to use. You will want to go ahead and have records and the like transferred to them so that they can see you as soon as possible when you get into your new home.

Avoid Heavy Lifting

This is extremely important. You are going to want to avoid the heavy lifting as this can put too much pressure onto your body. And for those women who are ready to deliver in the next month or so, picking up heavy items can actually bring on labor faster. SO delegate your lifting to others who are helping. Or simply use a professional packing service for even better results.

The Nursery Gets Set Up First

Be sure that you are setting up the nursey first in your new home, then working on other rooms in the home. This way you are prepared for the baby, whenever he or she decides to make their debut.

Be Sure to leave your Baby Bag Out When Packing

If you are close to it being time to go to the hospital, be sure that you leave your baby bag unpacked and ready to go. Keep this with you in your car, rather than letting the movers put this in their truck. This way, in the unlikely event that you need while in the midst of a move, you have it with you.

Moving while pregnant, no matter what stage of pregnancy you are in, is not always easy. There are going to be times in which you are cranky and simply want a nap. Our best advice is to put yourself first, and use as many other helpers out there that you can get, which does include professional packers and professional movers like Excel Moving. Get Rid of the Clutter

This is a common tip that is given to everyone when they move. However, it is a tip that everyone needs to remember and do! The more items that you take with you, the longer the move is going to take. If you have boxes upon boxes of clothes that no longer fit, why move these? Consider donating these items to Goodwill or Salvation Army so that someone else can get some use of these, and you can decrease the number of boxes that you are moving.

Pack your own Personal Items

For many people, they pay movers to come in and pack their times for them. However, consider placing up those personal items of yours on your own. Most movers are not going to mind if you do this. In fact, many would appreciate it, that way you are certain that you are not going to be losing anything important. Personal items can include important paperwork, toiletry items, photographs or jewelry.

Have a Plan for your New Home for a Productive Move

Be sure that you have a rough idea of where items are going to be going in your new home. It makes it much easier to have movers place boxes and furniture in the rooms that they belong, rather than piling everything into one room. While this is an option, in the end, you are going to find that you end up moving these heavier items on your own. If you are paying for a moving company, why not utilize their services as best as possible? After all, that is what we are here for!
